Finding that perfect pair of white breeches seems a never ending quest for us riders. We want them to sit perfectly on the hip, not too high, not too low. They need to hug in all the right places, and not ride up (or down) in those wrong places. They need to provide us with the right grip in the saddle, but not leave chafing marks on our legs. The fabrication and material need to be able to survive the vigour of training and competition, be easy to clean and still look good 12 months down the track. And the style needs to say, “I’m here to ride, look amazing, kick ass, and win!”
We know we ask a lot, but the Laguso 5-Layer Breeches are one of the best multitasking equestrian garments on the market and we have put them to the test. Here's a review by our customer Ute Raabe:
"The LAGUSO LAURA GRIP 5-LAYER BREECHES instantly make you feel like a million bucks. Named after rising showjumping star Laura Klaphake these white competition breeches definitely carry a little aura of fame with them. The style and cut are clean, crisp, and classy to a tee. Admittedly, they don't come cheap, but I would rather invest in one good pair of quality white show breeches, than having five pairs of ill-fitting, baggy jodhs.
Laguso have worked with the space gurus from NASA to design these breeches and the result is high-tech all the way. Five layers of super elastic, technical fabric have been seamlessly bonded to create breeches that are breathable, quick-drying, wind- and water-repellent. These white breeches are not see through, even on a wet and windy winter day at Werribee! Sun protection factor 50 is an added bonus for Australian riders.
The Laura Grip breeches are hip-style cut, but the increased back rise makes sure that they stay where they need to be. The breeches fit true to size, and dare I say, make for a pretty good figure in and out of the saddle. The Laguso 'bow & arrow' logo is embroidered on the thigh - a subtle, but sophisticated detail. I also like the black foot cuffs.
The quality of the fabric holds up beautifully in the saddle, the knee grip provides plenty of stickiness, even for a dressage rider. We might not have won our test, but we certainly looked the part and received plenty of comments on our competition outfit.
Best of all, the smooth, technical fabric almost seems magically dirt-repellent! With dressage events on Saturday and Sunday, I was worried about washing and drying my breeches in time, but as it turned out, a wash wasn't even required. I got a full weekend of competition out of these breeches, before a gentle machine wash at 30°C had them come up like brand new.
The Laguso Laura Grip 5-layer breeches get my tick of approval!"
